Château Chasse Spleen is arguably the top producer in Moulis, consistently producing high quality wines year in and year out that often surpass the quality of some classified growths in the Médoc. The estate was once part of the Grand Poujeaux until it was divided and Chasse Spleen became an independent château in 1820. In 1976 the estate became part of the Taillan Group, which has improved the estate's vineyards and wines. Today, Claire Villars runs the Château.
The wines of Château Chasse Spleen are made from a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, grown gravel soil mixed with clay and chalk. The wine is vininfied in stainless steel, then matured in oak barrels, 40% of which are new, for 12-18 months and bottled without filtration. The wines are deeply colored and full bodied with lots of deep dark fruits, a strong minerality and hints of chocolate.
