Domaine Carrel & Senger is located in the Jongieux subregion of Savoie, between the Rhône River and Bourget, France's largest lake. The property was originally established in the 14th century and until recently was owned and operated by the Carrel family for six generations. In 2022, young entrepreneur and Savoie native Thomas Senger acquired the estate and expanded the holdings to 33 hectares. The vineyards are situated at 1,476 feet and planted to Jacquère, Altesse, Gamay and Mondeuse on steep, southwest facing slopes on the calcareous clay soils of Mont du Chat and Charvaz. Despite their proximity to the Swiss Alps, the climate is surprisingly warm; Jongieux enjoys 2-3 more hours of sun than any other area in the Savoie.
Carrel & Senger's Jongieux Mondeuse is made from 100% Mondeuse fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks. Deep crimson color with aromas of strawberry, blackcurrant and raspberry mixed with spicy notes plume from the glass. The palate shows of soft, supple character buoyed by a refreshing acidity and added floral flavors that lead into an earthy, powerful finish. Enjoy with red meats and Savoy cheeses such as Tomme or Savoy Gruyere.
