Château Plaisance spans 17.5 hectares amid the rolling hills of Montagne Saint-Émilion, a landscape steeped in Bordeaux winemaking tradition. First documented on 18th-century regional maps and recognized as a Cru Bourgeois and Premier Artisans in the 1878 edition of the famed Féret Guide, the estate has long been a symbol of quality. Since its acquisition by the Ducourt family in 1994, Château Plaisance has been revitalized through extensive renovations — including a modernized winery, a new barrel cellar and a detailed study of the vineyard’s unique terroirs. The property now comprises 16 meticulously defined plots, more than one-third of which feature old vines dating back to the 1950s. Planted predominantly to Merlot (95%) with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon (5%) in silty clay-loam soils, each parcel is carefully tended and vinified separately, ensuring that every bottle captures the character and elegance of its origin.
Château Plaisance — Merlot blended with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon (6%) — presents a deep ruby red color with subtle violet reflections. The bouquet is intensely expressive, layering ripe cherry, strawberry, blackberry and raspberry, accented by vanilla, sandalwood, and a hint of spice, reflecting seamless oak integration. On the palate, it opens round and generous, immediately revealing its bold structure and impressive depth. The tannins are powerful — yet wonderfully infused — lending a silky texture that frames the succulent core of ripe red and black fruits. Mild, balancing acidity adds lift and precision, carrying the flavors through a long, resonant finish that lingers with hints of spice and subtle earthiness. This beautiful Bordeaux combines immediate appeal with the promise of graceful aging. Its refinement and complexity suggest it will continue to evolve over time in a proper cellar. Pair with your favorite cut of steak, though this wine will equally shine as bright alongside most braises or stews.
