The property of Tenuta Buon Tempo was initially founded in 1941 as Podere Oliveto and was devoted almost exclusively to the cultivation of olive trees. Though, due to industrialization and people moving to more urban areas, the estate was abandoned by the 1960s. It wasn’t revived until 1993, when Aldemaro Machetti purchased the property, registering it as Tenuta Oliveto and began a project to reclaim and enhance it, which included planting vineyards the following year. Husband and wife Per Landin and Janet Lansill acquired the estate in 2012, immediately transitioning to sustainable and organic farming practices to preserve its precious soils, the surrounding environment and the health of workers, consumers and visitors; organic certification came in 2021. Today, the property is managed by two sons, Filippo Bellini (Janet’s son) and Alberto Machetti (son of the previous owner). They oversee all aspects of production from vineyard to cellar. Half of the 28-hectare estate is planted to vine — exclusively to Sangiovese — in clayey-sandstone soils. They are masters of Sangiovese, crafting wines of elegance and purity that indubitably speak to their Montalcino origins.
Buon Tempo’s Rosso di Montalcino displays a warm ruby red in the glass. Aromas of raspberry and cherry highlight the intense bouquet, intertwined with whispers of hand-pinched herbs, light spice and a delicate floral note. The soft and supple palate exhibits stunning depth and concentration, showcasing a captivating interplay of pure red fruits, sensuous tannins and a hint of truffled earth. The moment this baby Brunello touches your lips, the wine is imbued with an unparalleled elegance that endures throughout its long, complex finish. The most extraordinary characteristic of this Rosso di Montalcino is the quality of its drinking experience… It looks, smells and tastes exactly like a Brunello, yet there is no need to wait to experience the pleasures of this wine. Enjoy it tonight or any night over the next 5+ years. Absolutely jaw-dropping!
