The Luneau family have been making wine since 1680, passing down their estate from father to son for nine generations. They are in the town of Le Landreau, southeast of Nantes, where they produce Muscadet Sèvre et Maine sur Lie and Gros Plant sur Lie. Raphaël has overseen the 30 hectares of vines since 2010, following his father Rémy. The estate’s name refers to the initials of both the father and the son, who worked together during almost twenty years.
Luneau's Goulaine Muscadet — crafted from the estate's 60-year-old Melon de Bourgogne vines — is aged on its fine lees for five years before bottling. Golden in the glass, the nose is extremely aromatic offering a mouthwatering mix of dried and candied fruits marked with notes of honey and spice. The full-bodied palate is rich and powerful with flavors of green apple, dehydrated pineapple and candied lemon peel complemented by a delightful acidity and subdued minerality. The finish is lush, complex and expressive. Pair with goat cheese, foie gras, pan-seared flounder with beurre blanc or grilled lobster tails.
