Cantina Sorelli Chianti 2023

Cantina Sorelli was established in the early 1900s by farming broker Angiolo Sorelli decided to pursue a life in wine. Together with his son Gesualdo, Angiolo built the foundations of this fifth-generation estate. The Sorelli family developed a close relationship with local farmers initially collecting their wines, bottled in wood-woven demijohns and carted to families in the area. Eventually, Gesualdo opened the family’s first hand-bottling cellar, releasing their Chianti in the legendary Tuscan fiasco, the well-recognized straw-bottomed bottle (out of tradition, Sorelli still offers a fiasco-bottled Chianti). Gesualdo’s two sons Roberto and Libero took over for their father and worked hard to expand the estate’s vineyard holdings. Today, the estate is run by Roberta Sorelli and her son Matteo following the same winemaking tradition and know-how that was carefully nurtured and passed down through the generations.

Sorelli’s Chianti pours a brilliant mid-ruby red, bursting from the glass with high-toned aromas of strawberry, raspberry and cherry. Secondary notes of violet and a hint of earthy spice complement its abundant fruits. The medium-bodied palate is packed with juicy red fruits, just like eating a handful of freshly picked berries! What is most striking about this wine is how clean and precise it drinks. Nothing is out of place… a vibrant, yet gentle, acidity swaddles those berry flavors while supported by soft, velvety tannins that tenderly glide you toward a beautiful, mouthwatering finish. Pair with a myriad of pasta dishes from a simple Pomodoro to vegetable lasagna to Bolognese, though this Chianti will be the perfect foil for any pizza night. But don’t limit yourself to only pasta/pizza, as you can’t go wrong with this delicious red: broiled salmon, roast chicken, burgers or grilled sausages… Sorelli’s Chianti will sing with them all!
