The 80 hectares of vineyards of Château Léoville Poyferré, located in the heart of Saint-Julien, date back to the middle of the 17th century, yet ownership has changed hands five times since. After achieving Second Growth status in the 1855 Classification of Bordeaux, Léoville Poyferré has maintained a level of excellence over the course of its lifetime. The Cuvelier family has owned the Château for over a century, purchasing the estate in 1920. They strive to find harmony between modernity and tradition, combining the latest in technological advances with a dutiful respect for their Bordeaux heritage.
100 Points — Jeb Dunnuck
“I was blown away by the 2022 Château Léoville Poyferré... This inky hued beauty offers that rare mix of power and elegance and offers ample cassis and assorted blue fruits, full-bodied richness, an opulent, concentrated, yet flawlessly balanced mouthfeel, velvety tannins, and plenty of classic Saint-Julien violets, espresso roast, and crushed stone-like minerality. Despite its incredible concentration and depth, it stays beautifully balanced. In a region that seems to only talk about finesse and elegance, it's a relief to still have producers such as this producing powerful, intense, singular wines. Hats off to the Cuvelier family and their team.”
