After nearly a half-century of winemaking in Algeria, Jean-Louis Mourre‘s family returned to France in 1962 and established the family estate in the Rhône Valley in foothills of the Dentelles de Montmiral. Since taking over the reins in 1995, Jean-Louis — a geologist by trade —oversees the organically-farmed 22 hectares of vineyards, which includes seven hectares in Vacqueyras. With his unique geological insight, Jean-Louis coaxes every bit of terroir into his vines which average 50 years of age. Composed of clay-limestone and sandstone, the vineyards’ soils nurture his vines of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Merlot and Alicante for the reds and Viognier, Marsanne and Grenache Blanc for the whites. Jean-Louis Mourre passionately crafts fine wines combining traditional expertise and technological innovation.
Jean-Louis' La Trace Vacqueyras rouge pours a deep ruby red, offering tantalizing aromas of red and black berry fruits tinged with notes of earth and spice. On the palate, this wine displays beautiful balance and weight... its ripe flavors of wild strawberry, raspberry and blackberries complemented with hints of bittersweet cocoa and espresso. A just-right amount of acidity and silky-smooth tannins ferry La Trace toward an enduring finish. Enjoy with full-bodied cheeses, grilled lamb kebabs or your favorite braise or stew.
