Domaine Carrel & Senger is located in the Jongieux subregion of Savoie, between the Rhône River and Bourget, France's largest lake. The property was originally established in the 14th century and until recently was owned and operated by the Carrel family for six generations. In 2022, young entrepreneur and Savoie native Thomas Senger acquired the estate and expanded the holdings to 33 hectares. The vineyards are situated at 1,476 feet and planted to Jacquère, Altesse, Gamay and Mondeuse on steep, southwest facing slopes on the calcareous clay soils of Mont du Chat and Charvaz. Despite their proximity to the Swiss Alps, the climate is surprisingly warm; Jongieux enjoys 2-3 more hours of sun than any other area in the Savoie.
Domaine Carrel & Senger’s Jacquère displays an ultra-light yellow with a light green tinge. Citrus-misted white orchard fruits dominate the nose mixed with a light bouquet of white flowers. The palate is clean and crisp — very spring water-esque — with light flavors of green apple, pear and lemon zest. A delicate, yet persistent acidity brings everything together as the wine glides toward a refreshing, mineral-kissed finish. Excellent with Alpine cheeses or light starters.
