Domaine Barmès-Buecher began in 1985 when Geneviève Barmès (née Buecher) and her husband François Barmès combined the vineyards of their respective families which each had owned since the 17th century. Today, their son Maxime runs the vineyard and vinification with the help of his mother and sister Sophie. The domaine has been certified biodynamic since the 2001 vintage and grows 8 varietals on 17 hectares of vineyards split over 7 different terroirs including 3 Grand Crus.
The vineyard Rosenberg is the classic mix of clay and limestone. Old vines of Sylvaner, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Auxerrois rooted in this mineral soil give full-bodied wines with terrific fruit but with a stony backbone and raciness that makes them both fantastic with food and good candidates for short-term aging.

The 2023 Sylvaner Rosenberg was grown on the northern part of this heterogenous site on a parcel of clay and limestone with just a little sandstone. It was fermented and aged in large foudres and stayed on gross lees until late July. The golden-hued wine is redolent of straw and wax. The palate just flows—this is rounded, generous and fluid but beautifully contoured, with a touch of orange zest. It's a lovely Sylvaner with such bright fruit, exquisite sinuousness and harmony. There are 14 g/L of residual sweetness that almost disappear.
