Scribe Winery occupies one of California’s oldest pre-Prohibition vineyard sites in the foothills of Arrowhead Mountain. Owned by brothers and fourth-generation California farmers Andrew and Adam Mariani, Scribe Winery employs non-interventionist practices to create distinctive wines honoring the site’s long history. Initially planted in 1858 by German immigrant Emil Dresel, Andrew and Adam purchased the derelict turkey farm in 2007 and revitalized the estate’s vineyard and original homestead. The brothers now sustainably farm (certified California Sustainable Winegrower) Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Mission, as well as Riesling and Sylvaner as a nod to the first vines planted by Dresel. Andrew and Adam strive to maintain a healthy relationship between man and nature, practicing no-till farming, using no pesticides, installing insectaries and employing forever-wild conservation, which seeks to assimilate the vineyard into the land’s existing ecosystems, enabling them to produce vibrant, terroir-driven wines.

The Scribe West Side Atlas Peak Cabernet Sauvignon sits a deep ruby red in the glass offering intoxicating aromas of dark berry and stone fruit with hints of peppery baking spice and herbs. The mid-to-full palate is rich and concentrated displaying layers of black cherry, plum and blackberries infused with notes of bittersweet chocolate and vanilla. The wine is guided by smooth, mouthcoating tannins to a delectably complex finish. An excellent pairing for BBQ sauce-slathered ribs, venison kebabs or your favorite cut of steak fresh off the grill.
