Hourglass is two vineyards, a winery and a compilation of estate wines: a vision unfolding. The vineyards are located in Napa Valley; the first, named the Hourglass Vineyard, in St. Helena planted to Cabernet Sauvignon; the other is the Blueline Vineyard in Calistoga, planted to the 5 Bordeaux varietals and Sauvignon Blanc. Ned's son, Jeff, founded Hourglass in the 1990's, after replanting the Hourglass Vineyard to Cabernet Sauvignon after the original Zinfandel vines fell to phylloxera. He also took on Bob Foley as winemaker. Their partnership has resulted in some of California's most expressive and sought after wines.
The Hourglass Sauvignon Blanc is aged in a mix of stainless steel, new and used French oak barrels. Aromas of honeydew melon, Meyer lemon and peach blossom plume from the glass, mixed with notes of grass, Granny Smith apples and wet rocks. The palate is richly textured with notes of lemon meringue, chamomile, lime, brioche and honey. Layered flavors, an integrated and refreshing acidity and wonderful concentration of flavors make this a beautiful and individual Napa Sauvignon Blanc. Enjoy with grilled oysters, baked clams or fried flounder drizzled with lemon butter.

The 2023 Sauvignon Blanc is bright and crystalline. Lemon peel, crushed rocks, mint, sage and slate are all finely delineated in this nervy, taut white. There's a bit less new oak in the 2023, which further amplifies that tension.
