Domaine Stephane Ogier 'Mon Village" Côte-Rôtie 2022

The Ogier family has been rooted in the Rhône village of Ampuis for seven generations. For years, the 27-hectare estate produced grapes, selling to some of the of the Rhône’s most prestigious estates, including Guigal and Chapoutier. Since grape-growing was more profitable for the family, it wasn’t until 1982, under Michel Ogier, that the estate began making their own wines from their harvests. By 1987, they were bottling wine under their own label. From a very young age, current owner and winemaker Stéphane knew he wanted to follow in his father Michel’s footsteps. After completing his oenological studies in Beaune, Stéphane joined the family business, eventually taking over for his father in 2003. A new winery was constructed in 2014, as well as one of the most beautiful tasting rooms in all of Côte-Rôtie. Today, Stéphane crafts phenomenal wines from his Syrah and Viognier grapes from Côtes du Rhône to some of the most famous Côte-Rôtie climats: Lancement, Côte-Rozier and La Viallière. Stéphane Ogier and his wines have become a standard bearer for the Côte-Rôtie as well as being sought after by the world’s greatest restaurants and wine programs.

Stéphane’s Mon Village Côte-Rôtie displays a deep ruby red with a purplish tinge. Alluring aromas of blue/red berry and stone fruits billow from the glass, infused with hints of lilacs, sandalwood and tapenade. The medium-bodied palate is clean, round and generous, presenting a dark, juicy concentration of fruit… red currant, blueberry and cherry. The Mon Village exhibits tremendous balance, perfectly composing its lush fruit flavors, elegant acidity and suave, velvety tannins into a harmonious symphony. The silky, minutes-long finish deftly showcases this wine’s irresistible decadence and finesse. This is textbook, traditional Côte-Rôtie!
