The Terre del Barolo cooperative was established in Castiglione Falletto by then-mayor Arnaldo Rivera in 1958 with just 21 founding growers. Arnaldo had a strong sense of community and believed that this was the best way to foster support and growth among the small landholders. The cooperative was a communal way for these farmers to compete in the market versus the larger wineries and brokers of the time. In just one year, the number of growers ballooned to 329, all throughout Piedmont. Today, the co-op stretches over 650 hectares with an intricate support system for members that includes technical resources such as plant protection products, organic compounds and natural fertilizers.
Terre del Barolo’s Verduno Pelaverga displays a light and crystalline ruby red color, bursting from the glass with high-toned aromas of cranberry and pomegranate infused with hints of violets and warm spice. The palate is incredibly vibrant and fresh… bright red berry fruit flavors are complemented by mouthwatering acidity and an ultra-fine minerality. These components coalesce seamlessly toward a refreshing and radiant finish. When we first tried this delicious wine, we enjoyed a lunch of beef carpaccio, prosciutto-wrapped melon and salumi e formaggi, but this pretty Pelaverga is incredibly versatile. This will be your go-to grab for any pasta, pizza or burger night. In the warmer months, you can even put a couple of bottles on ice… this will be the perfect refresher with a little chill.
