Socièta Agricola Raccaro — situated in the foothills of Mount Quarin — was established by Giuseppe Raccaro in 1928. It was Giuseppe’s son Mario who planted the vineyards and brought the family into the wine trade. Mario’s son Dario soon joined the family business and in 1986, he began to bottle wine under the Raccaro label. Today, Dario sustainably farms seven hectares of vineyards planted to Friulano, Malvasia, Collio and Merlot in soils of marl and sandstone. With the help of his wife Dalila and their two sons, Paolo and Luca, Dario crafts wines that exhibit the passion and love the family has for the land and nature. Raccaro’s wines are authentic representations of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, as well as fantastic expressions of its terroir.
Raccaro’s 100% Friulano is sourced exclusively from the Rolat vineyard in nearby Cormons. Lovely aromas of citrus-dipped, white tree and stone fruits accented by spring flowers and fresh herbs waft from the glass. The soft palate displays fresh, succulent flavors of ripe pear and white apricots complemented by notes of salted almonds. An invigorating acidity combines with a subtle, crushed shell minerality that gently guides this wonderful white toward a refreshing finish. A great go-to bottle for seafood night… try with linguine alle vongole, shrimp scampi or grilled whole fish.
