Bodegas Sierra Norte is a family estate with 322 hectares of vines in Camporrobles, Calderón, La Roda, Carcelén, Jumilla and El Pinós planted to traditional Spanish varietals. The estate was founded in 1914 in Camporrobles, Valencia by the Olmo family with an 8,000 square meter plot of land which they planted with Bobal, the first in the region to do so. Over the years, the vineyard area expanded and new varietals were planted, including Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Macabeo, though the grapes were always sold to other wineries. In 1985, the family eliminated the use of conventional sprays and began to farm organically. In 1999, Manuel Olmo, the third generation to lead the property, decided to make his own estate wines, and Bodegas Sierra Norte was born; the next year, 2000, all their of their vineyards were certified organic. Today, their wines represent exceptional quality at an amazing value.
The family-owned vineyards of Olcaviana are located in the La Mancha region of Spain. Grown in calcareous soils of sandy loam, the Tempranillo vines are tended manually through organic and sustainable farming. The region experiences very hot summers, which are perfect for both the physical and physiological ripening of the grapes. The wines of Olcaviana are true terroir-driven wines, showcasing an ideal expression of both grape and region.
This flashy 100% Tempranillo is resplendent with rich, dark red fruit — cherries and plums — on the nose, touched with a delicate floral note. The palate is vibrant and juicy, with just the right amount of acidity, while the soft tannins provide underlying structure to carry the fruit throughout the wine’s lengthy finish. This Spanish beauty can be drunk on its own or as an accompaniment to a variety of tapas, and light meat and pasta dishes.
