Domaine de Rancy — nestled in the Agly Valley just north of the Pyrénées — was founded in the 1920’s. In 1970, the estate was acquired by Marcel Verdaguer, who was joined by his son Jean-Hubert four years later. Jean-Hubert and his wife Brigitte took over the property in 1989 and now oversee the 50+ year old vines planted on clay-limestone and brown schist soils. While practicing organic for decades, the estate’s first certified organic vintage was 2011. Domaine de Rancy is one of only a handful of quality wineries still producing exceptional Rivesaltes in the old Ambré style, a unique fortified wine. Today, the couple manage an extraordinary library of wines, some dating back to the 1940’s.

The 1965 vintage present a deep mahogany color after spending 50 years in barrel. Aromas of espresso, caramel and spice burst from the glass. The full-bodied palate is rich and dense with flavors of dried figs and brown sugar are swaddled by a supremely textured mouthfeel. The finish is endless... you will dream about this wine. Enjoy with roasted mixed nuts, olives and hard cheeses or a variety of other hors d'oeuvres, as well as being a perfect dessert wine.
