Poggerino is one of Chianti Classico's most prestigious estates. Located in Radda in Chianti, the estate consists of 43 total hectares, of which 29 are certified organic vineyards planted mostly to Sangiovese. Poggerino’s vineyards are located at 400 to 500 meters, face south-southwest and are abundant with the rocky galestro soils Chianti is famous for. The land used to belong to Prince Ginori Conti, a descendant of one of Florence’s oldest families. Floriana Ginori Conti inherited the winery from her father in the 1970s, and in 1980, with her husband Fabrizio Lanza, began making Chianti Classico with the Poggerino label. In 1999 she handed over the property to her two children, Piero and Benedetta Lanza, who had been managing it since 1988. All wines are made exclusively with estate fruit.

Sourced from a single parcel of Piero's oldest vines, the Poggerino Vigna Bugialla Chianti Classico Riserva is a stunningly beautiful wine, showing off the finer side of Sangiovese. The nose is high-toned and elegant, with dark red berry notes with just the right touch of earth, oak spice, and mineral cut. The mid-palate is powerful, sexy and lush, brimming with vibrant, spiced fruit and teeming with wild-berry flavors. The finish is long with fine-grained tannins. This wine needs a big glass to fully unwind because there is a unique layer of refinement that gradually comes with air. Drink this Tuscan masterpiece any night over the next 20 years. Pair with a Tuscan-Style steak marinated with lemon zest, garlic and rosemary and served with prosciutto-wrapped asparagus and morels sautéed in garlic and butter.

This juicy red delivers raspberry, cherry, pomegranate, underbrush, iron and rose hip aromas and flavors. Firm, powdery tannins and lively acidity take over by the finish, keeping this well-defined and long. Best from 2026 through 2042. 850 cases made, 425 cases imported.

The 2021 Chianti Classico Riserva Bugialla is another superb offering from Poggerino. Dark, virile and strapping in nature, the 2021 is a big, dramatic wine. Macerated black cherry, licorice, dried herbs, lavender and spice are all amplified in the glass. The 2021 spent two years in cask, all of which it needed.
