Fattoria Agriturismo il Colombaio, an historic 70 hectare estate located in the heart of the Chianti countryside, sits on the Via Francigena, the ancient pilgrimage route to Rome. The property has historical records dating back to the mid-1800’s and in 1897, it was awarded an honor for the quality of their wines by the Municipality of Montereggioni. Today, il Colombaio is managed by fourth generation owner and winemaker, Marco Mangelli. Marco organically farms (practicing) seventeen hectares of vines — planted to Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc for the reds and Trebbiano for whites — with great passion and dedication to tradition. The goal is to communicate the estate’s unique terroir through their expertly crafted wines, with each one expressing their love of Tuscany.

Il Colombaio’s Gaspero Chianti Classico — named one of Marco’s ancestors — is crafted with 100% Sangiovese grown on their hilly vineyards composed of the famous Galestro soils of Chianti, a mix of loose marl, sandstone and limestone. The Gaspero, a delicious 100% Sangiovese, pours a deep ruby red in the glass, offering a hypnotic bouquet dark red fruit accented with hints of sweet tobacco, warm baking spice and vanilla. The medium- to full bodied palate is lush, filled with ripe flavors of black cherry, plum and black raspberries supported by a lively acidity and soft, silky tannins. This Chianti Classico is well-structured and persistent, carrying its gorgeous fruit flavors through to its long, elegant finish. This wine is a chameleon on the dinner table… enjoy with any hard cheeses, grilled venison medallions or pappardelle with wild boar ragù.
