The history of the Roche family runs deep in Cairanne. In the early 17th century, a family member, Msr. Biscarat, carefully selected the best plots of land in the region, gradually compiling 12 hectares of prime vineyards, which have been passed down through the Roche family for generations. In 1929, Victorin Roche founded the Cairanne cooperative, and in 1963, Marcel Roche expanded the estate's exceptional vineyard holdings while also serving as the President of the co-op until 2005. In 2009, after completing his wine studies in Beaune and Toulouse, Romain Roche took over the estate from his father, Marcel, and founded Domain Roche. Today, the estate consists of 25 hectares, mostly in Cairanne, which Romain farms with the utmost attention to detail and respect for the environment: he is in the process of fully converting to organic viticulture. The domain is blessed with an abundance of old vines — the average vine age is 50 years old, with one parcel over 120 years old — which, combined with Romain's impeccable farming and precise winemaking, help provide concentration, elegance and depth to all of his exceptional wines.

The Roche Cairanne is a blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah, with the Grenache grown in red pebble soils and the Syrah in soils of white clay and limestone. All grapes are hand harvested and the Grenache is fermented and aged in concrete tanks while the Syrah is fermented in stainless steel and aged in large barrels. In the glass, the wine sits an alluring dark ruby color with garnet highlights. The nose is wonderfully intense, exhibiting intoxicating aromas of spiced red fruits, Mediterranean herbs and blackberries with an alluring savory quality. The palate is juicy, fresh and structured with soft, pillowy tannins and a refreshment and energy that perfectly balances the full body and velvety mouthfeel. The finish is long and complex, highlighted by an enticing interplay of savory herbal tones and luscious fruit concentration. Enjoy with barbecue beef brisket or ribs, smoked hot dogs or grilled lamb.
