Bernard Dampt is from a family of farmers who have been growing grapes in Chablis for generations. He was worried that he wouldn't have any land to leave his sons to continue the vigneron tradition, so in the 1980's Bernard began buying up vineyards in the hopes that his three boys would continue farming and making wine. In 1998, his wish came true: he retired and handed the reins over to his children. Today, Bernard's sons, Eric, Emmanuel and Hervé craft over 30 wines ranging from Grand Cru Chablis to Bourgogne. They combine tradition and modernism to produce high quality, terroir-driven wines for all wine drinkers, from novices to collectors.

Since 2019, all Dampt vineyards have received HVE Certification (Haute Valeur Environnementale or High Environmental Value) from the French Ministry of Agriculture. This three-tiered system is a sustainability initiative that encourages farms and vineyards to increase biodiversity, decrease the negative environmental impact of their pesticide/herbicide use, manage their fertilizer inputs and improve their water management. Once an estate completes each of the three, increasingly stringent tiers, they are awarded certification.

Note on the 2022 vintage: The 2022 vintage in Chablis started with a mild, comparatively dry winter followed by a dry, hot summer. Spring frost had a minute effect on budbreak, though flowering, ripening and harvest occurred on time and without issue. The dry conditions allowed for disease-free vines and optimal vine health. Overall, 2022 was beautiful and sun-filled... a classic, almost-perfect vintage.

Note on Les Preuses vineyard: Les Preuses — with its remarkable mineral intensity — is widely-regarded as the Grand Cru climat which most purely displays the essence of Chablis. The vineyard is afforded ideal ripening conditions with steep slopes and a south to southwest-facing exposure that receives sunlight from morning to evening. One of the longest-living Chablis Grand Crus.

Vignoble Dampt’s Les Preuses sits a brilliant pale gold in the glass with deep yellow reflections. This Grand Cru radiates with intoxicating aromatics. Waves of white orchard fruits and citrus blossom give way to hints of acacia, toasted brioche and pulverized chalk. The palate is generous and rich with a surge of green apple and poached pear that is complemented by notes of lime zest and caramelized pineapple. The luxurious mid-palate is framed beautifully by a charged acidity and ultra-fine minerality that effortlessly floats you towards a complex and seemingly never-ending finish laced with touches of petrichor and sea spray. Enjoy tonight or any night for the next 20+ years.
