Bodegas Marqués de Arviza — located mostly in the town of Clavijo — is a traditional family winery and the second oldest one producing wines in La Rioja. Its inception dates back to 1874 with its winery built upon more than 500 meters of original 16th and 17th century calados (underground cellars).Young winemaker Mario Ruiz-Clavijo oversees 45 hectares of family vineyards planted to Tempranillo, Graciano and Garnacha. Along with Marqués de Arviza, Mario manages multiple mini-projects from family-owned plots throughout Rioja. The wines from Marqués de Arviza display distinct personality, exceptionally reflecting the terroir from which they originate and the idiosyncrasies of each unique parcel.
Marqués de Arviza’s Rioja Reserva — composed of Tempranillo with 10% Garnacha — soars from the glass with gorgeous aromatics of dark red and black fruits tinged with spice and vanilla. This Reserva combines incredible power with a seductive elegance, showcasing beautiful blackberries and plums dusted in spice. Well-balanced with a velvety texture, the wine is supported by soft tannins as it gracefully saunters toward a long, silky finish. A fantastic pairing for smoked paprika-spiced lamb stew or rosemary and garlic-crusted roast beef.
