Documents from 1396 mention not only the purchase of Château de Tracy, but the vineyards that are still planted to vine today. Château de Tracy has been owned by the d'Assay family since 1952 and is currently run by Juliette d'Assay. The property sit atop a rocky spur overlooking the Loire and is comprised of 33 hectares of sustainably-farmed vineyards grown on soils of flint and clay-limestone which help Château de Tracy craft powerful and distinctive wines.

Château de Tracy's Pouilly-Fumé pours a brilliant pale yellow with silver reflections. A gentle swirl of the glass releases an infusion of citrus and tropical fruit aromas marked with notes of white flowers and crushed chalk. Waves of melon, kiwi and red grapefruit crash across the palate intertwined with a fresh, vibrant acidity and a delicate, flinty minerality. All these components meld together seamlessly leading to a long, refreshing, saline-laced finished. A excellent accompaniment to shellfish, though for a treat, pair it with salmon Oscar or lemon-herbed chicken.

Pouilly Fumé is the underdog in the Loire Valley compared to Sancerre, but don't sleep on it and bottles like this. The wine opens with a nose of chalk followed by ripe golden apple, dried dill and thyme, white nectarine and dried lemon zest. Mature fruit reveals itself on the palate and is comfortable in its strength.

The 2022 Pouilly Fumé is ambitious, full-bodied, round and textured. Produced from vines between 30 and 50 years old, it is mainly harvested by hand before being fermented and aged on lees with regular batonnage. This creates a rich, creamy mouthfeel while the acidity is higher than most in this vintage, giving a sense of tension in combination with the structure contributed by both the chalk and flint. The medium-length finish is redolent of elderflowers and white stone fruit. There's plenty of attention paid to this wine in the winery, and it's clear what they are trying to achieve from the glass, but the fruit needs a little more depth and substance to elevate it further.
