Terra Costantino was founded in 1970, when Dino Costantino purchased an estate and vineyards in Contrada Blandano, Viagrande, Sicily. With much passion, commitment and hard work, Dino transformed the estate and made the vineyards fully operational, allowing the family to begin producing their own wines in 1978.
The estate became Etna’s first certified organic winery in 2000. Two years later, Dino’s son Fabio started working with his father in the vineyards and winery and — within five years — they finally began bottling and selling it under their Terra Costantino label. The duo organically farms ten hectares of vines on the southeast slopes of Mount Etna. Their vines — Carricante, Catarratto and Minella for the whites; Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio for the reds — are grown in sandy, volcanic soils rich in minerals. Terra Costantino crafts distinctive wines of character that are authentic to Etna.
Terra Costantino's deAetna Bianco is composed of 80% Carricante, 15% Catarratto and 5% Minella from vines averaging 25 years of age. The wine was fermented, then aged for a few months, in stainless steel. Mid-gold in color, this bianco offers deep aromas of orchard and citrus fruits accented with hints of white flowers, sage and salt-crusted rocks. The palate is bright and elegant with flavors of Asian pear, apple and Mirabelle plum balanced with lemon zest and candied orange peel. The wine exhibits a delightful interplay between these vibrant fruits, a dazzling citrus acidity and a beautiful saline minerality. The deAetna Bianco finishes crisp and fresh, punctuated again with that mouthwatering acidity that calls you back for another sip. The perfect foil for any fish or poultry dishes, though try it out with grilled langostino risotto topped with seared scallops or spaghetti alla puttanesca bianco.
