Scribe Winery occupies one of California’s oldest pre-Prohibition vineyard sites in the foothills of Arrowhead Mountain. Owned by brothers and fourth-generation California farmers Andrew and Adam Mariani, Scribe Winery employs non-interventionist practices to create distinctive wines honoring the site’s long history. Initially planted in 1858 by German immigrant Emil Dresel, Andrew and Adam purchased the derelict turkey farm in 2007 and revitalized the estate’s vineyard and original homestead. The brothers now sustainably farm (certified California Sustainable Winegrower) Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Mission, as well as Riesling and Sylvaner as a nod to the first vines planted by Dresel. Andrew and Adam strive to maintain a healthy relationship between man and nature, practicing no-till farming, using no pesticides, installing insectaries and employing forever-wild conservation, which seeks to assimilate the vineyard into the land’s existing ecosystems, enabling them to produce vibrant, terroir-driven wines.
Scribe’s Chardonnay pours a mid-gold color bursting from the glass with vibrant aromas of white orchard and tropical fruits accented with citrus zest and sea spray. The medium-bodied palate is rich and complex, possessing waves of green apple, pear and pineapple flavors with hints of vanilla and lemon curd. The slightly creamy mid-palate carries through to a delightful finish that is crisp and clean. Enjoy with a variety of seafood, roast chicken or light pasta dishes.
