Château Fourcas-Hosten — located in the Listrac appellation in the Médoc region of Bordeaux — was established by Jean-Baptiste Hosten in the 18th-century. The property was acquired by Baron Louis Bernard de Saint-Affrique in 1810. The Baron’s ownership was the catalyst that drove the estate to international acclaim and the château stayed in his family’s possession until 1971. For the next three and half decades, Château Fourcas-Hosten was owned by New York investors before being purchased by Laurent and Renaud Momméja in 2006. The Momméja brothers invested heavily in extensive soil mapping of the estate’s nearly 50 hectares of vines as well as achieving sustainable farming certification in 2017 and certified organic accreditation starting with the 2021 vintage. Château Fourcas-Hosten is comprised of two major vineyards: a 20-hectare plot on the clay-limestone Listrac plain and the 27-hectare sand and Pyrenean parcel on the Fourcas plateau. In Listrac, vines are planted to Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc and Gris; whereas the estate’s Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot make up the Fourcas vineyard's composition. In addition to the rehabilitation of their vineyards, Laurent and Renaud set to the modernization of the château and winery, restoring Fourcas-Hosten to its former glory.

The Château Fourcas-Hosten is composed of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. Deep ruby red with purple reflections, a few gentle swirls of the glass reveal a rush of wild cherry and cassis aromas complemented with hints of sandalwood and licorice. Waves of dark red and black fruits cascade across the elegant, medium-bodied palate elevated by vivacious acidity and a pulverized stone minerality. Perfectly integrated, super-fine tannins help usher this beautiful Bordeaux towards a finish which displays wonderful concentration and finesse. This wine is a no-brainer companion for anything off the grill: marinated pork loin, beef kebabs or your go-to cut of steak.
