Weingut Spáter-Veit is a Mosel Valley estate run by the husband and wife team of Heinz and Silvia Welter. The name of the estate comes from Silvia's maiden name, Später, as well as that of her mother, Veit, one of the oldest wine-growing families in Piesport. In 1988, Heinz took over winemaking from Silvia's father, continuing the family tradition of crafting complex, age-worthy Rieslings from some of the highest quality vineyards on the Piesport slope. These southeast to southwest facing vineyards are composed of the famous Devonian slate soils — the perfect home for Riesling vines. The wines made from these vineyards display a glorious richness, acidity and minerality, while maintaining superb balance and elegance. Heinz and Silvia farm seven hectares of vineyards on the slope with the help of their two sons, Eric and Niklas.
This Riesling Kabinett pours a beautiful pale gold into the glass expressing entrancing aromas of citrus-tinged orchard fruit, white flowers and a light nutty quality. This is an off-dry Kabinett — but is so superbly balanced — with flavors of honeyed stone fruits kissed with lime zest. This intoxicating medley ride along a backbone of delicate minerality and crisp acidity all the way to a lipsmacking finish. the harvest: spontaneous notes, sweet honey, fresh fruit and bitter-nutty pistachios and almonds - just to name the aromas on the nose! The sweet Kabinett caresses the tongue with crisp acidity, tangy lime and a hint of local vineyard peaches. Perfect for sushi night, but can be enjoyed with a fried flounder sandwich or roasted chicken or turkey.
