Vigneti Vumbaca's inception was in 1984 with the purchase of six hectares (two planted to vine) in the Cirò municipality of Calabria. Christian Vumbaca's mother and uncle made this purchase to pursue a hobby, while it planted a seed as Christian fondly remembers his younger years among the vines. Fast forward a decade or so, Christian surprisingly abandons his law profession in Rome to return to his childhood home to pursue his dream. Today, Christian organically farms six hectares of vineyards grown on sandy- and clayey-calcareous soil, planted to Gaglioppo and Greco Bianco.
Vumbaca's Cirò Bianco is 100% Greco Bianco, sitting a bright straw yellow in the glass with light greenish reflections. The nose offers a highly aromatic bouquet of citrus-kissed tropical fruits with a hint of seaspray. The palate is wonderfully balanced, displaying notes of white peach, kiwi and lemon zest that interplay beautifully with a vibrant acidity and a saline-laced minerality. The finish is long and refreshing. Pair with pan-seared halibut in a lemongrass broth or street-style shrimp tacos with a cabbage slaw and fresh pico de gallo.
