Tenuta Gorghi Tondi was founded by Michele Sala, along with his wife Doretta, in 2000. The Sala family have been grape growers for four generations, tending their vineyards in the Lake Preola and Gorghi Tondi nature reserve, which has been under the protection of the World Wildlife Fund since 1998. The natural oasis, located on the southwest coast of Sicily, contains a treasure of volatile and aquatic species and a suggestively rare flora. Today, the estate is run by Michele’s daughters, Annamaria and Clara, who work to safeguard their surrounding environment as their great-grandmother Dora did over a century ago. The Reserve helps guide the sisters in all winegrowing decisions, including the use of clean energy and banning synthetic chemicals and genetically modified organisms in accordance with the strictest organic farming standards, in order to protect the estate’s biodiversity.
Gorghi Tondi's Grillo is sourced from the estate's nearly 20 year old, Coste a Preola vineyard, whose vines are grown on sandy, limestone soils. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, then the wine is aged on its lees for five months in those same tanks. This Grillo presents a bright, straw yellow in the glass with greenish reflections. On the nose, it offers intense aromas of tropical and stone fruits kissed with a touch of mint. The well-balanced palate is medium-bodied and rich with flavors of white peach and pineapple complemented by an invigorating acidity. The finish is refreshing and persistent. Enjoy with vegetable empanadas or baked tilapia served with summer vegetables drizzled with lemon juice and olive oil.
