Domaine de l'Évêché is a beautiful, 12.5 hectare estate located in the Côte Chalonnaise run by Vincent Joussier who purchased the domaine in 1985. The vineyards produced renowned wines in the Middle Ages, however most of the vines were ripped up in the early 20th century and replanted with fruit trees. Vincent's vineyards are the last vestiges of the viticultural history of the land, and his tireless work has once again put these Mercurey wines on the map.
Les Murgers Mercurey Rouge is sourced from the top of a stony, clay-carlcaire hillside with south-east exposure. Deep ruby red in the glass with garnet reflections, Les Murgers possesses an intriguing nose of spiced red berries tinged with freshly-tilled earth. The palate is awash with flavors of wild strawberry, raspberry and cherry lightly dusted with baking spice. This wine is well-balanced, showcasing a beautiful marriage of delicate acidity and elegant tannic structure. The finish exhibits tremendous length and depth. Pair with grilled portobello over mixed greens, sesame-crusted tuna or veal scallopini.
