Emmanuel Rouget founded his eponymous Flagey-Échézeaux domaine in 1985 after over a decade working under the tutelage of his uncle, legendary Burgundian winemaker, Henri Jayer. After Henri’s daughters showed no interest in making wine, he took Emmanuel under his wing. Beginning in ’85, Henri started leasing some of his vines to Emmanuel which helped him establish his estate. Throughout the next sixteen years, Henri gave up more and more of his vines to his protégé and by 2001 all of Henri’s vines were under Emmanuel’s purview following the former’s retirement. Emmanuel has continued to vinify the Georges Jayer wines in his own cellar since 2002. Rouget’s wines have achieved otherworldly status amongst the world’s finest restaurants, sommeliers and collectors alike. Rouget crafts a range of wines, from village level to Premier Cru to Grand Cru, all highly esteemed for their exceptional quality, showcasing an extraordinary balance of power and elegance, intoxicating aromatics, incredible purity and beguiling complexity. His most iconic wine is the Cros Parantoux, a Premier Cru vineyard from Vosne-Romanée. The vineyards — located mainly in Flagey-Échézeaux with holdings in Savigny-lès-Beaune, Côtes de Nuits-Villages and Nuits-Saint-George — are farmed with respect to nature (almost exclusive organic). Since 2011, Emmanuel’s sons Nicolas and Guillaume have taken the reins of the estate; Nicolas tends the vineyards, while Guillaume oversees the winery.
