Domaine Cosse et Maisonneuve was started in 1999 by Matthieu Cosse — the winemaker, a graduate of the Institute of Enology in Bordeaux — and Catherine Maisonneuve — oenologist who holds a BTS viticulture and oenology in Blanquefort. They took over a 5 hectare estate in Prayssac, a short distance from Cahors, planted with old vines of Malbec and commenced making wines that were more fruit forward, modern and polished compared to the traditional, rustic Cahors style. Today, their estate consists of 17 hectares of certified organic vineyards, which are also farmed biodynamically, in the best locations in Cahors: the gravel and clay thrid terrace above the Lot River.

All vineyard work is done with the aim of attaining balanced soils to produce the best ripening conditions for the fruit. The Cosse et Maissoneuve Solis, made from 100% Malbec, is a harmonious, aromatically complex and precise wine. It is bursting with ripe, dark berry fruit but with a soft, approachable roundness and elegance not usually associated with Cahors. The finish is rich and lush with superb transparency to the terroir of their vineyards. Enjoy with roast or braised meats.
