Artigano translates to “artisan”. A small co-op of independent farmers grows grapes in the rocky, mountainous area of Abruzzo between the province of Chieti and the Sangro River. Vines are planted in soils of clay with stony primary rock which impart a dazzling minerality to the resultant wines.
The Artigiano Montepulciano d’Abruzzo pours a striking ruby red in the glass. Intense aromas of spiced dark fruit entrance the senses with a couple of swirls. The palate is full of black cherry, macerated cranberry and plum flavors accented with notes of dried herbs and sweet tobacco. Subtle minerality and the perfect touch of acidity guide this delightful red to a long and pleasing finish. An ideal pairing for pasta dishes with meaty sauces, though this delicious rosso will also be a wonderful accompaniment with mushroom farrotto or Korean BBQ.
