Domaine de Terra Vecchia (meaning ancient land in Corsican) is nestled on the eastern coast of Corsica in the Costa Serena region. The vineyards were originally established in 1961 by Francis Skalli, though today the estate is owned and operated by Jean François Renucci after he purchased the domaine in 2011. The property is comprised of over 200 hectares of vineyards planted to native grapes Niellucciu, Sciaccarellu, Vermentinu and Biancogentile, as well as international varietals Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cinsault and Chardonnay. The estate's soils are a sandy-clay mix which helps provide softness and purity of fruit to the wines. Jean François enlisted the help of famed winemaker and oenologist Denis Dubourdieu to modernize his winery and revamping the vineyards.
Terra Vecchia's Niellucciu pours a deep ruby red displaying aromas of dark red and black berry fruits tinged with spice. The palate is well-structured packed with flavors of Morello cherries, macerated plums and baking spice and balanced with just enough acidity and well-developed tannins. The finish is long and mouthcoating. Enjoy with any grilled or roasted red meats or assorted wild game.
