Reserve Ammiq's vineyards are located in one of the few remaining protected areas in West Bekaa, Lebanon which was designated by UNESCO as a 'biosphere reserve" in 2005. The Ammiq Wetland is Lebanon's largest freshwater reserve known for its unique biodiversity, especially water buffalo and migratory birds. Winemaker Peter Skaff manages all levels of production from vine to bottle. The vineyards — overseen by four generations — are composed of vines that average 50 years of age and are farmed sustainably using only organic fertilizer. Harvest is completed manually and all grapes are destemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks using indigenous yeasts. Resultant wines are then aged in French and American oak barrels for 18 to 24 months.
The Reserve Ammiq Cuvée — a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan — pours a deep purple, emitting ripe dark fruit aromas punctuated by black pepper. The palate is medium-bodied and rich with firm tannins that buttress the blackberry and cassis flavors which are complemented by a touch of green bell pepper. Delicious with anything from the grill, especially anything brushed with a tangy BBQ sauce.
