Gianni Doglia is a small, 10 hectare family estate located in Castagnole delle Lanze in the Asti region of Piedmont. The estate is in its third generation of family leadership under Gianni and his sister, Paola. Gianni has made the conscious decision to remain a small family operation, which allows him to pay special attention to all aspects of the winemaking process, and ensures he is able to express the essence of his unique vineyards. Out of respect for the land and their family's future, Gianni and Paola practice sustainable viticulture by respecting soil diversity to promote microbial flora and fauna; eliminating use of chemical fertilizer, herbicides and pesticides; and managing and maintaining small wooded areas between the vineyards to increase the local wildlife population. They are members of The Green Experience, a sustainability initiative launched by producers in Piedmont that provide an accreditation that highlights natural agricultural techniques, conservation of the environment and encouragement of biodiversity. All Gianni's hard work has paid off with his recognition as Gambera Rosso's "Grower of the Year" in 2022!
Gianni Doglia's 100% Cortese is a lovely sipper. It is amazing how well the varietal expresses itself in Gianni's vineyards: the combination of his impeccable farming and magnificent terroir have produced a most pleasant surprises! In the glass, the wine shows a brilliant light lemon color with a clear, water white rim. Aromas of white flowers, lime zest, Granny Smith apples, wet rocks and macadamia nut explode from the glass, arresting your attention. The palate is light-bodied with a zippy acidity and lively mineral tinge to complement flavors of sour apple and citrus zest. On the finish, there is a sneaky ripe stone fruit flavor with a subtle note of spearmint. This is an absolutely irresistible wine, perfect to enjoy with a salad of citrus and apples, a pasta of fresh herbs, lemon and peas, or on its own with the beautiful weather.
