The origins of Clos d’Albizzi can be traced to 14th century Florence, Italy. After years of intense rivalry with the powerful Medici family, Antonio Albizzi and his family thought it best to leave Florence altogether. They charted a ship to take them to America, though after just a short time aboard the vessel, the ship ran aground on the coast of Provence, just outside the town of Cassis. The Albizzi family decided to stay and have made their home in Cassis since 1523. For over twenty generations, the Albizzi family has grown wine in the clay-limestone and marly soils in the shadow of Mont Gibaou. Today, François Dumon, and his daughter Marie-Laure — direct descendants of those shipwrecked Albizzis — organically farm fourteen hectares of vineyard planted to Grenache, Cinsault, Marsanne, Clairette, Ugni Blanc and Bourboulenc.
