Christos Zafeirakis is the fifth generation of his family to make wine in Thessaly, on the slopes of Mt. Olympus. He earned his master's degree in oenology from Milan, then worked in Tuscany, Piedmont and Alto Adige before returning home to Tyrnavos where he grew his family estate to 8 hectares and started the first organic vineyards in the area. Zafeirakis’ obsession is first and foremost with his soils, which are dominated by clay. All vineyards are certified organic and throughout the year the vineyards are carefully and rigorously cultivated. In the cellar, all wines are fermented with native yeasts.
The Zafeirakis Limniona Young Vineyards is 100% Limniona sourced from Christos’ younger vines grown in sandy-clay soils considerably interspersed with flint. Aromatically intense, the wine jumps out of the glass, offering an enticing bouquet of bright red fruits accented with hints of rose petal, herbs and crushed stone. The incredibly juicy, medium-bodied palate is fresh and vibrant, displaying loads of strawberry, raspberry and pomegranate flavors that seamlessly meld with the perfect amount of acidity, savory minerality and soft, persistent tannins. This delightful red finishes long, marked with a touch of citrus zest and earth. An excellent pairing for grilled chicken with lemon butter and herbs, beef shish kebabs or roast leg of lamb.
