Francesca Poggio is the third generation of her family to grow grapes and make wine in the heart of the Gavi DOCG in Piedmont, though it wasn't until 2003 that she established Azienda Agricola il Poggio. She sustainably-farms the sandy and clay rich soils in the hills of Rovereto, which impart the unique character of the local Cortese grape. Francesca has learned the winemaking traditions of her family that have passed down from generation to generation since the 1950's and she has preserved that knowledge with her practices in the vineyard and cellar. Today, Francesca's sister, Alessandra, helps her manage the resort, her daughter, Giorgia, assists in the cellar and Francesca's husband, Angelo, is in charge of the vineyards and woods. The estate will soon be moving forward with organic conversion.
