Castillo de Montblanc is run by the Carbonell Figueras family, who have been tending vines and making artisanal wines for over 300 years. In 1988, Luis Carbonell Figueras decided to expand the family business by constructing a modern winery with a large production capacity to handle the number of different wines the family makes. The winery is located in Catalonia, very close to two historically significant sites: the fortified town of Montblanc and the Monastery of Poblet. The 80 hectares of vineyards are planted with 15 different grape varietals in three different locations, each with varied expositions, soil types and climates. Their winemaker, Josep Vadrí, has been working with these varietals for over 30 years, and his experience shines through in all their wonderful wines.
The Castillo de Montlblanc Cava Reserva Brut is a blend of 50% Macabeu, 30% Xarel-lo and 20% Parrellada grown on calcareous/clay soils. All grapes are hand-harvested and fermented in stainless steel, with the secondary fermentation occurring in bottle followed by two years of aging before release. Light straw color with a delicate bead of tiny bubbles in the glass, Montblanc's Cava Brut has a vibrant medley of aromas: lemon curd, toast, white flowers and a distinct chalky mineral note. On the palate, the wine is finely textured with a crisp and clean mouthfeel that provides loads of energy with an exceptional balance of fruit, minerality and acidity. The finish is snappy and incredibly refreshing, enticing you back to your glass for another sip. Enjoy as an aperitif, fried seafood or assorted snacks and dips.
