The Sax family has been dedicated to viticulture since 1660 when wineries were run as mixed agriculture. At its inception, the family winery was based in Lengenfeld with 1.5 hectares under vine. In the mid-1950's, the estate was relocated to Langenlois where the vineyards have continuously expanded to its present size of 30 hectares. Up until 2008, the property was run by the husband and wife team of Rudolf and Ernestine Sax. It was then that their twin sons, Rudolf Jr. and Michael took the reins of the estate, in both the vineyards and the cellar. The primary focus of the estate is Grüner Veltliner, though their range also includes Riesling, Gelber Muskateller, Frühroter Veltliner, Weissburgunder, Chardonnay and Zweigelt.
The Sax Kamptal Grüner Veltliner pours a light greenish yellow in the glass. A gentle swirl releases aromas of white pepper-spiced exotic and tropical fruits. The palate is full of flavor — ripe quince, melon and cucumber — and refreshment, coasting its way to a lovely finish that leaves you craving that next sip. Enjoy with a whole roasted chicken or baked pork chop served with sautéed apples and cabbage.
