Weingut Geierslay, situated on the steep banks of Mosel, is run by the Kilburg family, one the Mosel's oldest winemaking families. The estate was established in 1465 and has seen 19 generations of winemakers, the current being Max Kilburg. Max, a trained winemaker, has worked at wineries in South Africa, the US and Australia. In addition, he has worked in Germany with Julian Haart in Mosel, where he has learned wine production from scratch. Max is also an active member of Generation Riesling, which allows young German winemakers under 35 years to reach both worldwide audiences and has grown into the world's largest community of well-educated, internationally experienced and highly ambitious wine professionals. The Kilburg family estate is comprised of 15 hectares and over the years have deftly combined many innovative techniques into the winery, while still keeping the traditional methods of their predecessors alive.
Geierslay's Vertigo Riesling Feinherb is beautifully aromatic with gorgeous aromas of stone fruits leaping from the glass. This is a fun and energetic wine. The palate is awash with flavors of white peach and apricot infused with a light citrus zest. The slight off-dry flavors are balanced perfectly with a zippy acidity that will get you going right back for another sip. This is an ideal wine to start the evening... Great as an aperitif, but also will work well with hors d'oeuvres.
