Domaine Joseph Roty has one of the largest cult followings of any small grower in Burgundy, producing some truly exquisite wines. The family has been winegrowers for an astounding eleven generations since 1710! The domaine is fanatical about old vines, boasting one of the largest concentrations in Burgundy, averaging about 65 years of age. These are some of the oldest in France, the living ambassadors of the affinity the Rotys so obviously feel for their land. Domaine Joseph Roty produces wines with remarkable structure, length and complexity, undoubtably contributed by their old vine fruit and uncompromising winemaking.
The Domaine Joseph Roty "Les Ouzeloy" Marsannay is crafted with Pinot Noir from 60-plus-year-old vines. The grapes are 100% destemmed, undergoing a three-week fermentation at cool temperatures, followed by time in oak — around 50% new — before bottling without fining or filtration. The wine displays beautiful aromas of dark cherry fruit with a hint of truffle. The palate is intensely concentrated with flavors of black cherry and stone fruit sensuously entwined with a subtle earthy minerality. This is a stellar wine from a stellar producer. It continues to open up in the glass, delivering layer upon layer of flavor and complexity. Enjoyable now, but these wines are made to age. A delicious pairing with roasted pork loin, assorted game — pheasant and rabbit — or any soft, creamy cheeses.
