Domaine Florent Garaudet is located in the village of Monthelie in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, right between Volnay and Meursault. Florent Garaudet — fifth-generation winemaker — founded his eponymous domaine in 2008 with three hectares from his family estate. Today, Florent sustainably farms 11.5 hectares with lutte raisonnée: vineyards surrounding Monthelie are planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay extending over the appellations of Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet, with a further small parcel of Aligoté vines in Puligny. Fermentation occurs naturally, then wines are aged in French oak, 8-18 months for the whites and 12-18 months for reds, depending on the vintages.
Florent Garaudet's Meursault is 100% old-vine Chardonnay crafted from vines of over 50 years of age grown on chalky clay-limestone soils. Golden yellow in the glass with greenish reflections, this Meursault offers a hypnotic bouquet of white-fleshed fruit mixed with notes of fresh butter and lemon verbena. This is a rich, complex wine that displays flavors of white peach, green apple and lime accented with a hint of toasted hazelnut. Delicate acidity and flinty minerality interplay beautifully as they pirouette across the palate leading to a seemingly endless finish. Perfect for steamed lobster served with drawn butter or roast turkey with garlic mashed potatoes.
