Origin Italy, Campania, Beneventano

Cantine Iorio is led by two brothers, Pietro and Luca Iorio, the fourth generation of their family to continue the legacy of working in the family's vineyards and cellar. Their estate is located in Torrecuso, on the slopes of Mount Taburno in the province of Benevento in Campania, where Iorio focuses exclusively on the native grapes Aglianico and Falanghina. Their vineyards are on limestone-clay soils that have been prized since the time of the Romans, who named the land Campania Felix — which roughly translates to happy land. Pietro organizes and undertakes all the work in the vineyards, while Luca manages the winemaking and the cellar. The brothers are passionate about resurrecting old vineyards — both their own and their neighbors — in an effort to highlight the indigenous grapes of Campania; particularly how Aglianico and Falanghina express themselves in the terroir of Benevento.

Cantine Iorio's Aglianico Beneventano IGP is their baby, crafted from 100% Aglianico grown on clayey-limestone soil. The wine pours a deep ruby red color and one gentle swirl is all that is needed for an abundance of ripe red berry fruits to explode out of the glass, accented with a touch of black pepper. The palate is full of juicy, bright red fruits — cherry and raspberry — that cascade across the tongue balanced by soft tannins and a delicately pleasing acidity. This summer sipper finishes fresh and lasts just long enough to beckon your next taste. Pair with anything you're going to serve this summer, Cantine Iorio's Aglianico plays well with others. Don't miss out on this delicious little red!
