The small domaine of Henri and Paul Jacqueson had been the jewel of Rully for a considerable time. Paul Jacqueson followed in his father Henri’s footsteps, keeping the Burgundian village of Rully firmly on the viticultural map in the excellent value area of the Côte Chalonnaise. Today, Paul continues to push the envelope of quality, a feat of well over 50 years. His daughter Marie now joins him in the vineyards and winery, after completing her studies in the renowned viticultural school in Beaune. Paul is known for an almost obsessive, meticulous attention to detail in all aspects of the domaine, a trait which he is passing down to Marie.
Jacqueson's Passe-tout-grains — a 2:1 blend of Gamay and Pinot Noir — displays a deep ruby red in the glass. Macerated bush berries tinged with earthy minerality dominate the nose. The palate is full of concentrated fruit flavors (raspberry, mulberry and cranberry) leading to a mid-palate that is full and lush. The wine possesses a beautiful mineral component that adds to the fine-grained tannic structure. A delightful pairing for mushroom-accented dishes — like risotto or pastas — though it will be equally delicious with pan-seared white fish or baked chicken dressed with herb butter.
