Domaine Changarnier — established in 1720 — is located in Monthelie. Behind several centuries of winegrowing tradition, the estate has been run by brothers, Claude and Antoine Changarnier since 2004. Together, they organically farm (since 2019) 5.5 hectares of vines planted in soils of clay-limestone, clay-loam and marl-limestone. Harvests are completed manually, grapes are sorted by hand and wines are vinified with minimal intervention. Aging takes place in barrel, 15-20% new, for 12 months, then bottled with little filtration.
Changarnier’s Les Malpoiriers displays a resplendent light gold color in the glass. Ripe tree and citrus fruits accented with notes of toasted almonds dazzle the senses. The palate is rounded and elegant, showcasing flavors of lime zest-dusted apples and pears balanced by a fine acidity and saline-tinged minerality, finishing long and complex. Pair with grilled lobster kebobs, bacon-wrapped scallops or pan-seared chicken breasts.
