Château Grand Ormeau is in Lalande-de-Pomerol, an appellation just north of Pomerol, on Bordeaux's Right Bank. The vineyards cover 14 hectares planted to Merlot (64%), Cabernet Franc (18%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (18%) on gravel and sandy soils over a clay and iron-oxide rich subsoil. The estate has a well-earned reputation for excellence; in 1874, the wines from the property were known as among the best in the area by Cocks & Féret, the historic guide to the wines of Bordeaux. Today, Bruno Lacoste, who worked with world-famous consultant Michel Rolland, is Grand Ormeau's oenologist, overseeing all work in the vineyard and cellar. The wines are rightfully considered among the best in the appellation.

Chevalier is the second label of Château Grand Ormeau, a selection of young vines that are farmed and vinified with the same devotion and care as the Grand Vin. A blend of 86% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Cabernet Franc, the Chevalier pours an inky purple from the bottle with a dark ruby rim. On the nose, aromas of baked blackberries, cassis and plums intermingle with tobacco leaf and toasted oak notes complemented by a whiff of graphite minerality. The palate is richly structured with thick, juicy tannins and a dense concentration of black fruit flavors tinged with earth and spice. Incredibly smooth and wonderfully complex, this stunning wine is a no-brainer to enjoy alongside traditional holiday roasts.
