Les Muriéres is a collaboration between the Cave de Rasteau — one of the oldest cellars in the Rhône valley, founded in 1925 — and Cave de Visan, created in 1935. The wine got its name from the tree, Murier — the mulberry tree — because many of the vineyards that grow the grapes for Les Murières were once planted to white mulberry trees. These trees were home to silkworms, which provided the raw material for France's bustling silk trade in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. As an homage to the region's history, the winemakers in Rasteau and Visan decided to name the wine after the mulberry trees that once proliferated the vineyards of the Ardeche and Vaucluse departments. The name also refers to the extreme drinkability and silky texture of the wine itself!

Les Murières Côtes du Rhône is a blend of 50% Grenache, 35% Syrah and 15% Carignan and Marselan grown on a combination of stony hillside and gravelly limestone soils in Rasteau and Visan, fermented and aged in a mix of stainless steel and concrete tanks. The Grenache comes from 25+ year-old vines in Rasteau; the Syrah from Visan; and the Carignan from 35+ year-old vines in both villages. The wine shows a lovely deep purple color with garnet highlights. Aromas of blackberry, blueberry, ripe strawberry, dried purple flowers and spice explode from the glass. The palate is silky, plush and juicy with an incredible freshness and energy that effortlessly flow into a persistent and mineral finish with subtle savory undertones to complement the ripe, succulent fruit flavors. Les Murières is a gorgeous Côtes du Rhône that is smooth as silk. This is a perfect barbecue wine, ideal for grilled burgers, sausages, barbecue chicken or slow-cooked beef brisket or ribs.
