Warre's Vintage Port 2017
Warre's is one of the most historic names in Port, synonymous with the history of the British in Porto. The family can trace its roots in Oporto back to 1729, when William Warre first arrived and started the eponymous Port dynasty, though the firm that became Warre's was established as early as 1670. A Warre served as British Consul in Porto and the famous William Warre fought as an officer in the Peninsular War against Napoleon under the Duke of Wellington, who he also kept supplied with port. Today the house is owned and operated by the Symington family, another legendary name in the region. Warre's is famous for their Vintage Ports, a well deserved reputation built upon the family's wines in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The grapes are sourced from the beautiful Quinta da Cavadinha in the Pinhão Valley, as well as Quinta do Retiro, Quinta da Telhada, Quinta do Alvito and Quinta das Netas. Warre's signature style is floral, fresh and elegant, reflecting the particular characteristics of these higher altitude vineyards.
